Would a visit to the chiropractor help sciatica?

I keep hearing that I should go to the chiropractor… everyone I know swears by it, but the thought of it just scares me.

However, I occasionally experience sciatica, which has gotten worse as of late. I’d like to figure out something to help relieve it other than just ibuprofen and heating pads. I work in a hospital, so I’m constantly on my feet and bouts of sciatica are quite painful when I need to keep working.

HELP…!??
